UNSAFE WORK PRACTICES
Forklifts, in their many forms, are the work horse of modern material handling! Yet, sadly, over 11% of the nearly 1 million forklifts in use in the U.S. will be involved in some type of accident each year! Some of these incidents are due to unsafe work practices!
Every day forklift operators face the challenging task of moving material of all different shapes and sizes. To do that some have resorted to such unsafe work practices as exceeding the lifting capacity of the forklift, giving rides on the forklift, transporting unstable loads, operating at excessive speed, failing to use seat belts, etc. These unsafe work practices increase the risk of injury to the operator AND others!
The point is this: if you learn and apply the principles of safe material handling at all times you will make your workplace safer for everyone!
If you would like to share your experiences/photos of forklift incidents that can educate others on the principles of safe forklift operation please send them to bhulberg@D2000safety.com.
