Last month Oregon's Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) accredited our confined space rescue curriculum for use in training firefighters in Oregon. This means that students who take the class and successfully demonstrate required skills will receive credit towards completing their NFPA Technical Rescue Certification. The class reflects NFPA 1006 and related DPSST standards.
The class is scheduled to require 30 hours of training; however, if the students have previously completed other forms of confined space or rope rescue training, the class may require less time.
Two of our instructors (Michael Fazio and Kenn Lindsey) have been certified to teach this course.
The curriculum is essentially the same as what we provide to general industry. The main differences relate to the specific equipment and techniques used by first responders and the challenges posed by the wide variety of spaces they may have in their response area.
