Exacavations can be hazardous places to enter and work within. This booklet, designed to be used in conjunction with the Leader's Guide, stresses the importance of:

o Recognizing the signs of a possible failure of the excavation.
o Not attempting to rescue co-workers in the event of a cave-in.
o Increasing one's chances of survival in the event of becoming trapped by a cave-in.
